Description:

Come network with professionals a wide variety of industries including renewable energy, electric vehicles, utilities, consulting, and business!  In the first part of the event, eat free food while socializing with students and professionals in an informal setting.  In the second part of the event, students will be organized into small groups and rotated among the professionals.  This will allow students to spend time getting to know each professional and discuss career paths.  This event is ADA Accessible.  RSVP at our Facebook event page: https://www.facebook.com/events/324380764291724/.

[CAL] Excel Workshops – Advanced Excel

Description:

Cal Actuarial League is hosting two Excel Workshops in the upcoming months. Excel is a spreadsheet program widely used in the actuarial profession. The workshops will be taught by our fellow officers, who are ready to share the essential Excel functions and shortcuts they learned as actuarial interns. Remember to bring your laptops so you can follow along the presentation and try some of the things you will learn. Note that these two events are both members exclusive. Thus, you must either bring your membership card to the event or buy lifetime membership at the door for $5. Food and refreshments will be provided at both events. Come join us and learn how to use Excel like an actuary!

Advanced Excel – Tuesday, Apr. 10th, 7:30pm – 136 Barrows
This workshop is designed for an audience with more background in Excel. Attending the “Basics of Excel” workshop is adequate background for this workshop. Topics covered include advanced formulas widely used in the actuarial profession, array formulas, pivot tables, and basic macros.

The Earl F. Cheit Award for Teaching Excellence is an award presented to the Berkeley-Haas faculty member who displays teaching excellence during the academic year.  Each degree program (Undergraduate, MBA, Evening MBA, Weekend MBA, MFE, and Ph.D.) must select one and only one recipient.  Although the selection might be very difficult, co-recipients are not permitted.  At your option, you may announce one or more “honorable mentions”.

Outstanding GSI Award

· The guidelines are similar to those above for the Cheit Award.

· There are always two GSI Awards:  one for the Undergraduate Program and another for the MBA Program.  The EvMBA GSI Award, the WeMBA GSI Award, and the MFE GSI Award are optional.  The same committee may be used for both awards.

· A separate award is the Berkeley Outstanding GSI Award.  This award is for the previous calendar year, not this academic year.  In early-March, I nominate to campus the Haas School’s recipients for the campus award.  You are not obliged to choose from this group.

Selected award recipient names must be forwarded to the Senior Assistant Dean for Instruction, Jay Stowsky stowsky@haas.berkeley.edu, no later than the last Wednesday of April (This year that is April 25).

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance & Legal Aid

Looking for legal assistance or tax help? The ASUC Student Legal Clinic helps educate the Berkeley community about available legal options. Interns provide fully researched case reports to clients in search of legal aid.  New to the ASUC Student Legal Clinic is our Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Site. VITA volunteers provide free, quality income tax preparation assistance to low and moderate income, elderly, disabled, and limited English speaking people. All the volunteers at the Student Legal Clinic have been trained and certified by the IRS.
